It was back in 1843 that Victorian entrepreneur Sir Henry Cole sent the first Christmas card as a time-saver for writing individual letters to send good wishes for the festive season. But today many people are finding writing and then sending cards is no longer the most convenient way to deliver that annual seasonal greeting.

Writing and then posting Christmas cards still remains a seasonal tradition, however an increasing number of people are choosing to donate money they would usually spend on sending Christmas cards directly to charity instead or send e-cards to family and friends on social media instead.  And recent research has shown that this year this growing trend of the last few years is again expected to see more people do away with sending physical cards altogether. A key factor this year in particular being that with the pandemic and latest lockdown restrictions in place many people won’t have enough time to buy, write and send cards.

Donating to charity or combining the sending of e-cards with a donation is a great way to help those organisations in need at this time of year of giving, and none more so in these unprecedented times.
