After a few years absence LNBP Community Boating are pleased to announce the return of our Schools Week programme in 2023 and invite your school to bring your classroom to the canal.
As part of our annual local community awareness initiative, we are again offering the opportunity for local schools to join us to experience life on the canal with us during our annual Schools Week Programme which will run from Monday 19th to Thurs 22nd June 2023.
For over 40 years we have seen first-hand the enjoyment and excitement young people get from having a trip on the canals with us. From a schools perspective, these trips can be structured in line with subjects covered by the National Curriculum for children in school years 3 to 6. For example they can learn about the history and heritage of the canals, how locks operate and the engineering involved, and find out about the varied wildlife which can be seen along the banks and in the surrounding countryside.
Our trips during Schools Week are provided free of charge. We can take your pupils and teachers on a short trip on our boats along the Grand Union and Oxford Canals from Braunston where there is ample opportunity to learn about the boats, history of the canals, see some of the canal wildlife (hopefully) and even operate the locks.
Both our boats are managed and run by our project skippers, and can cater for 24 persons (10 pupils + 1-2 members of staff. We can even arrange to visit your school and talk about your trip in advance.
We hope a date during our School Week may be suitable and of interest to you. If not, we would be happy to try to arrange a more convenient date for you and your pupils to suit (subject to availability).
